Introduction
On January 30th, 2025, the Executive Director of Henry Djaba Memorial Foundation (HDMF) and the M&E Officer visited the Perpertifi community – one of the 48 communities in Yilo Krobo as part of our outreach programme.
Perpertifi community is about 30 kilometers from Somanya and is situated off the Sikabeng and Koforidua main road. The Community is predominantly a farming community, and the main crops are maize, cassava, plantain, yams, cocoyams, and palm nuts. We met with…….participants from the community consisting of teachers, clergymen, assemblymen, farmers, traders, students, and opinion Leaders.
Objective
The purpose of the outreach program was to introduce the Foundation to the community and learn from firsthand their concerns and interests as well as the interventions that would best support the development of vulnerable young girls, women, and persons with disability in the community. The second purpose was to observe and select volunteers from the group to serve as HDMF facilitators (movers and shakers) in the community and liaise between HDMF and the community. The third purpose was to energize the community to buy into the mission of HDMF and encourage them to provide material and in-kind support to vulnerable persons in the community.
Key Issues:
The main issues and challenges raised by the participants included the following:
- Lack of Water results in residents using hand-dug wells, which dry up during the dry season.
- The School in the community lacks toilet facilities, and there is no school feeding.
- Poor road network and high unemployment among the youth.
