A STRONG WOMAN https://henrydjabamemorialfdn.org.gh/2024/07/11/a-strong-woman/ https://henrydjabamemorialfdn.org.gh/2024/07/11/a-strong-woman/#comments Thu, 11 Jul 2024 11:59:41 +0000 https://henrydjabamemorialfdn.org.gh/?p=1558

It is with pride that we share the story of Salomey Teye-Gagah, a 44 year old living with physical disability and a single mother with one son.  In December 2023 she graduated with an  NVTI certificate in Fashion Design at the Henry Djaba Memorial Center for Ideas and Knowledge (HDMCIK) in Somanya. We are so proud of  Salomey’s achievements and are delighted that on completion she is now a seamstress and an entrepreneur who has established ’Mawulepee Fashions’ located at Atua in Somanya.

At the young age of four (4) Salomey suffered from a wrongly administered injection which rendered her physically challenged, unable to walk and move around except by crawling or in a wheelchair.  Undaunted by this misfortune, Salomey has embraced her physical disability with confidence, determination and perseverance. In spite of this she has turned her life around through hard work and resilience. Theodora Roosevelt said “Believe you can and you are halfway there”.

Salomey is halfway there and very inspiring because she has not allowed her disability to stop her from chasing her dreams.  She has demonstrated that disability is not inability.  With a hand up from Henry Djaba Memorial Foundation (HDMF) she has made the impossible achievable. To start her off the Henry Djaba Memorial Foundation at her graduation donated a sewing machine as a start-up to enable her begin her own sewing enterprise.

To empower Salomey and other young girls and women like her striving to make ends meet out of hunger, poverty and disability we provide you with the opportunity to support a vulnerable girl/woman by sending your contribution via the HDMF Momo Account number 0248510067/ https://gofund.me/82a06346
